Bali Climate Week 2025: Real actions and clean energy innovations from Bali

Bali has long been recognized for its cultural heritage and natural beauty; yet it is also emerging as a frontrunner in climate action. With an ambitious goal to reach Bali Net Zero Emissions by 2045, fifteen years ahead of Indonesia’s national target, the island is showing how local leadership can set the pace for national and global climate progress.

At the heart of this transition are entrepreneurs. Across Indonesia, innovators are designing climate and clean energy solutions that not only reduce emissions but also generate livelihoods and strengthen communities. However, scaling their impact requires more than technical brilliance – they need supportive ecosystems where capital, community, and policy converge.

This is where New Energy Nexus (NEX) Indonesia plays a strategic role. As part of the Koalisi Emisi Nol Bersih, NEX brought its startup alumni into the spotlight during Pekan Iklim Bali 2025 (Bali Climate Week), held on August 25-30. Our founders’ presence showcased how clean energy innovation can connect with people, investors, and government, accelerating Bali’s climate journey – while offering replicable models for the rest of Indonesia.

Explore Climate Innovation: Community-centered climate solutions

One of the activities during the week was Explore Climate Innovation, where participants visited climate innovation sites across Bali. NEX Indonesia selected two standout locations: Volto and Magi Farm.

At Volto’s workshop, gasoline motorcycles are converted into electric ones—offering cost savings, lower emissions, and a more environmentally friendly option. Participants had the chance to speak with Poltrada Bali cadets and staff and even test the innovations firsthand.

Meanwhile, Magi Farm, in collaboration with TPS3R Kesiman, demonstrated how Black Soldier Fly larvae transform organic waste into high-value animal feed and fertilizer. This innovation not only reduces emissions but also creates economic opportunities and strengthens local food security.

Both startups show how climate solutions can emerge from everyday needs and exemplify the kind of innovation nurtured by NEX Indonesia.

Investment Forum: Cross-sector collaboration

During the Climate Investment Forum, NEX Indonesia hosted a roundtable session titled “From Bali to the Archipelago: Building Climate Investment Momentum in Indonesia.” The discussion featured startups such as Sumba Solusi Alam and BTI Energy & Electric Wheel, along with investors from Bali Investment Club and Sweef Capital. Alumni including Griya Luhu and Bendega also showcased their products and innovations at exhibition booths during the forum.

One speaker, Erlangga Bayu Rahmanda Putra, Founder of BTI Energy & Electric Wheel, emphasized:

“The energy transition can’t happen in isolation. Cross-sector collaboration between innovators, investors, government, and communities is the key to turning real solutions into reality.”

The discussion highlighted that innovation is more than just ideas—it must be connected to capital and supportive ecosystems to grow and deliver impact.

Local Market: Celebrating action with the community

The Local Market brought innovation into people’s daily lives. Startups such as Kishara, Decoco Luminer, Ambawarna, and Kelana Terra opened booths to introduce climate and circular economy solutions in an approachable, friendly, and engaging way. The lively atmosphere—complete with entertainment and community interactions—reinforced that the energy transition can be a natural part of everyday life.

Linking Innovation and Impact: NEX Indonesia’s Perspective

According to Rayhan Alghifari, Technical Team for Bali Climate Week & Policy Analyst at NEX Indonesia:

“Bali Climate Week gave us the opportunity to showcase how clean energy innovation can grow through collaboration—from startups to communities—and truly deliver impact on the ground.”

All participating startups—such as Volto, Magi Farm, BTI Energy & Electric Wheel, Griya Luhu, Bendega, Kishara, and others—are alumni of NEX Indonesia programs. Their presence reflects the grassroots movement built by NEX through mentoring, networking, and investment access. Clean energy innovation emerges from communities, returns to communities, and strengthens Bali’s progress toward its Bali Net Zero Emissions 2045 target.

From converting motorcycles into affordable electric vehicles to transforming organic waste into sustainable feed and fertilizer, these startups are proving that the clean energy transition begins with grassroots solutions. By connecting them with capital, mentorship, and networks, New Energy Nexus is ensuring these solutions scale, thrive, and deliver impact where it matters most.

Our work in Bali reflects a broader commitment: linking innovation and impact to lift clean energy entrepreneurs across Indonesia and around the world. Each startup we support brings us one step closer to accelerating a just and inclusive transition to a more sustainable future—for Bali, Indonesia, and beyond.
