JAKARTA – June 22 2022, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) encourages young people to take action and support Indonesia’s energy transition. With the upcoming 2022 G20 Summit, together with Sustainable Energy for Indonesia’s Advancing Resilience (Sinar) – USAID and New Energy Nexus (NEX), the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources hold the Energy Transition Innovation Challenge (ETIC), which serves as a platform for young people developing their innovative solutions to support Indonesia’s energy transition and showcasing their innovation to the global audience. 

“By joining the ETIC competition, young people get the chance to win a total prize of more than Rp50 million. Winners will also be invited to attend the Bali Youth Energy Forum event, next September,” stated Agung, the Head of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Information and Cooperation Services (KLIK) at ESDM during the ETWG-2 location Labuan Bajo, NTT, Tuesday (6/21).

Agung shares that the competition will be divided into 2 categories, the ideation, and prototyping stage with three thematic themes: Securing Energy Accessibility, Advancing Energy Financing, and Smart & Clean Energy Technologies Scaling Up.

 

 

“Young people need to be involved in the energy management and sustainability sector, therefore we need to give young people a conducive space for them to innovate and explore to be able to bring cleaner energy at a more affordable price in the future,” said Agung.

New Energy Nexus (NEX) Indonesia Program Director, Diyanto Imam stated that NEX Indonesia provides innovators, entrepreneurs and startup access to capacity development through business incubation and business acceleration programs, funding, and networks that young people need. “NEX believes that enabling environment is needed to nurture young people to catalyze their innovation, as well as making impactful and scalable business,” Diyanto added.

For this reason, ETIC opens opportunities for young people at the maximum age of 25 years to participate in this competition. This competition will also be divided into 2 categories, ideation, and prototyping stage, in the following themes:

(1) Securing Energy Accessibility

(2) advancing energy financing

(3) Smart & Clean Energy Technology Scaling Up

This competition is open to innovators and startups at the minimum stage of technology readiness (TKT) Level 3+, has never been commercialized or has never won a similar competition. In the proposal submission, participants must take into account the market potential and business capital plan. Participants also need to clarify their project timeline and funding needs. Only those whose work or innovation is not bound to any agreement with any agency or a similar program can join the competition.

Registration is now open from June 21 to July 10, 2022. Selected participants will receive coaching and bootcamp sessions by New Energy Nexus Indonesia to help them shape their final pitch.  The winners will be announced on the 8th of August 2022.
