Jakarta, June 2, 2022 – Indonesia has great potential in New and Renewable Energy (EBT) resources, which is more than 400 GW, while only 2.5% or 10 GW has been utilized. The government is actively promoting the optimization of the use of NRE for sustainable development and the environment. Including supporting diverse clean energy entrepreneurs. Giving support to clean energy entrepreneurs can help to accelerate the EBT business ecosystem that will drive the national economy in the future.
The [RE]Spark Renewable Energy Festival 2022, organized by New Energy Nexus Indonesia and supported by the IKEA Foundation, is an event dedicated to renewable energy startups, stakeholders, and key players to explore and develop clean energy-based innovations and solutions for Zero Net Emissions in Indonesia. This event is held at The Westin Hotel, Jakarta, sponsored by Medco Foundation, Innovation Factory, GIZ, and TransJakarta.
The Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy of Indonesia Sandiaga Uno, Director-General of New Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Dadan Kusdiana, Plt. Deputy for Maritime Affairs and Natural Resources at the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas and New Energy Nexus Chief Energy Officer Danny Kennedy open the plenary session.
“New Energy Nexus supports diverse clean energy entrepreneurs/startups through accelerator programs, funding, and ecosystems. We understand that providing the right resources to entrepreneurs/startups at the right time will unlock the clean energy solutions the world needs to tackle the climate crisis. As of this year, we have programs in 10 countries to help startups thrive and succeed. New Energy Nexus is committed to always supporting and contributing to accelerate the energy transition, 100% clean energy for 100% of the population,” said New Energy Nexus Chief Energy Officer Danny Kennedy.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy of Indonesia, Sandiaga Uno, who gave a virtual keynote speech, conveyed his highest appreciation to renewable energy and climate innovation startups that join [RE]Spark today, especially startups that have been directly supporting sustainable tourism. “I hope that with many startups joining the [RE]Spark Renewable Energy Festival organized by New Energy Nexus Indonesia, it can accelerate economic growth and green economy in Indonesia,” added Sandiaga.
The Director-General of New, Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Dadan Kusdiana, explained, “Indonesia has more than enough renewable energy sources. The potential from various resources is five times greater than what we will need in 2060. The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources supports New Energy Nexus’ efforts in Indonesia and would like to congratulate New Energy Nexus on holding the [RE]Spark Renewable Energy Festival. We hope that [RE]Spark will support the acceleration of the transition to renewable energy in Indonesia.”
The festival is themed ‘Accelerating Transition and Igniting Innovation’ and aims to support and accelerate the adoption of renewable energy and environmentally-friendly innovation through a series of activities. Such as:
Hackathon – serves as a platform for innovators to develop and launch scalable innovations in the renewable energy sector and provide solutions to problems such as energy access, decarbonization, smart mobility, climate fintech, and energy efficiency.
Exhibition – where we welcome 23 startups from various sectors to showcase their latest innovations.
Investment Speed Dating – this session aims to bring startups in the renewable energy and climate innovation sector to meet potential investors. We have 29 startups presenting their best pitch to the 15 potential investors.
Workshops – where we have interactive discussions on the topics of the energy transition, green jobs, Women Entrepreneurs in the Clean Energy sector, as well as investors’ viewpoints to build a clean energy startup.
More than 30 renewable energy innovators and startups from various fields, such as clean energy, e-mobility, energy access, energy digitization, customer experience, and business model innovation joining the [RE]Spark Renewable Energy Festival.
This festival also facilitates renewable energy startups who took part in the NEX incubation and acceleration program of New Energy Nexus Indonesia as well as other startup partners to showcase their innovations. Some of the startups that have joined are:
- Olatmaras: PT. Olat Maras Power (OMP) is a Sumbawa University of Technology subsidiary. PT. OMP uses renewable energy and appropriate technology for its product development, including electric bicycles, solar-powered cold storage, and solar-powered submersible pumps. Through this innovation, fishers in Sumbawa can store their catch products longer with cold-storage products using solar power and batteries.
- PT Xurya Daya Indonesia (Xurya) is a renewable energy platform with a vision to revolutionize the Indonesian energy industry. Xurya has pioneered the zero investment method of switching to solar to incentivize a wave of rooftop solar projects specifically in the C&I sector.
- Spora EV aims to create an electric vehicle ecosystem by providing engineering, product development, and EV conversion services.
On the second day of [RE]Spark 2022, 10 hackathon teams will present their ideas, innovations, and works in the Demo Day session with 5 judges. The jury will choose the three best teams and one favorite team to win the total prize of IDR 100 million.
