Jakarta (24/9) – New Energy Nexus Indonesia proudly launches its first-ever Hackathon [RE]energize Indonesia, designed to attract smart and renewable energy innovations to help us adapt to our new future. Supported by Indonesia’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, this online hackathon is open to individuals and teams with interest in developing smart and renewable energy-based solutions for Indonesia. [RE]energize Indonesia seeks to identify smart and renewable energy-based solutions with a focus on the public health and sanitary sector and productivity that can benefit millions of people in Indonesia.

“Solicitation for online applications starts today, 24 September 2020. The most important requirement is a one-pager concept note that demonstrates their proposed solution, innovation or idea can address a problem relevant to one of our challenge areas, which are Public Health & Sanitary, and Productivity. We will be assisted by 5 prominent judges from a variety of backgrounds, including from our global network, who will determine each applicant’s eligibility to be invited for the Demo Day. One of them is Bapak Sudirman Said, current Secretary General of the Indonesian Red Cross Society” explained Aditya Mulya, New Energy Nexus Indonesia Program Manager. Ten shortlisted teams for the Demo Day will gain access to 6 experts to help them refine their innovations and solutions.

New Energy Nexus had previously held hackathons across the world such as LGchem in South Korea in collaboration with LG, Hyundai, and Kia, and Smart Energy Hackathon in Bangkok, to name a few. [RE]energize Indonesia hackathon also marks New Energy Nexus Indonesia second year in their pursuit of helping to develop a conducive as well as an inclusive ecosystem for smart and renewable start-ups through funds, accelerators and networks in Indonesia, having held more than 4 incubation cohorts and successfully assisted more than 20 renewable energy startups in Indonesia, as part of their cohorts, in developing and refining their business strategies and innovations.

“With the support of New Energy Nexus, we have been able to improve our innovation, both from the business as well as the technology side,” expressed Reynaldi Pradipta, CEO of Sylendra Power, a renewable energy startup that was a part of New Energy Nexus Indonesia 2019 incubation cohort. “We worked with The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPNB) from July to August 2020, by providing their self-powered decontamination center with reliable energy storage solutions. When optimized, smart and renewable energy can truly power up many sectors, not only for the sake of our future, but also during critical times such as now,” Pradipta continued.

Winners of the hackathon will bag a total of Rp. 100 million cash prize, and gain access to New Energy Nexus Indonesia’s Smart Energy Incubation and Acceleration Program, that is designed to support smart and renewable energy start-ups in Indonesia to scale. [RE]energize Indonesia seeks to identify and support solutions that are not only meaningfully address greenhouse gas emissions, but also create high-quality jobs and economic opportunities for millions of people in Indonesia.

“At New Energy Nexus Indonesia, by supporting the creation and development of renewable energy startups we make sure that our programs and initiatives are closely aligned with the Indonesian government’s commitment to increase the renewable energy share in the national energy mix to 23% by 2025.,” said Diyanto Imam, New Energy Nexus Indonesia Program Director.
