PACE wins first place at the [RE]Energize Hackathon, with their renewable energy-based irrigation innovation

Jakarta, September 7, 2023 – New Energy Nexus (NEX) Indonesia successfully hosted [RE]Energize 2023: Hacking the Climate Crisis, an innovative platform aimed at fostering creative ideas, transforming paradigms, and empowering startups to access funding. Supported by the IKEA Foundation, the event showcased the pivotal role of young professionals, climate innovators, startups, and entrepreneurs in driving sustainable economic development, accelerating energy transitions, and enabling decarbonization in Indonesia through climate technology and digitalization.

Highlighting the event’s mission, Diyanto Imam, Director of New Energy Nexus Indonesia, remarked:
“NEX Indonesia seeks to bridge knowledge and capacity gaps by empowering youth to take actionable steps against the climate crisis. Through Hackathon sessions and Investment Speed Dating at [RE]Energize 2023, we aim to spark business innovations in the clean energy and climate sectors. This event represents our commitment to fostering positive transformations and addressing climate change impacts in Indonesia.”

Spanning from May to September 2023, [RE]Energize Hackathon successfully attracted nearly 100 innovation teams. After a rigorous selection process, 10 startups or teams were chosen to advance to the finals and participate in the Demo Day session, which took place on the final day of [RE]Energize, September 7, 2023.

Judges evaluated the finalists based on their understanding of climate challenges, the viability of their solutions, and their potential impact. Winners received a total prize of IDR 100 million, and the results are as follows:

1st Place and Audience Favorite: Team Innovator PACE – A smart irrigation system based on renewable energy aimed at addressing water management issues in agriculture in East Nusa Tenggara.

2nd Place: Team Innovator Terra Verde – Developing a smart greenhouse installation that integrates technologies such as machine learning, the Internet of Things (IoT), and cloud computing.

3rd Place: Team Innovator PLUMO – A platform designed to provide practical and scientific measurement tools for the food industry to track the carbon footprint of their products.

Alongside the Hackathon, New Energy Nexus Indonesia hosted the 2023 Investment Speed Dating, connecting climate technology startups with investors. The initiative provided startups with funding opportunities and fostered collaborations, strengthening Indonesia’s climate tech ecosystem.

This year, [RE]Energize received support from diverse group of community partners, including Enerka, Generasi Lestari, Lingkar Temu Kabupaten Lestari, Komunitas Startup Teknologi Energi Bersih (KSTEB), Teens Go Green, UNS Innovation Hub, and Yayasan Indonesia Cerah. The event also garnered support from media partners such as Changemakr Asia, Katadata, Katadata Green, and Zona EBT..
