“The transition towards a low-energy system and even a zero-carbon economy has become a necessity to overcome the impact of the climate crisis, and with our renewable energy potential, Indonesia could be a hotspot for innovation and growth of the renewable energy industry,” explained Marlistya Citraningrum, Program Manager for Sustainable Energy Access, IESR, who is also taking part as one of the judges and mentor on [RE]Spark.
According to Indonesia’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources data, Indonesia has up to 400,000 Mega Watt (MW) renewable energy potential. Therefore if the average assumption to power a single house only needs 450 volt-amperes (VA), then the country’s clean and renewable energy potential may be able to supply electricity to approximately 800 million homes.
“Indonesia has joined other countries in reducing carbon emissions, and one way is by utilizing renewable energy. There is great potential for Indonesia in the renewable energy sector, and we at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources continue to strive towards reaching our goals. Renewable energy will also create job opportunities in Indonesia. Congratulations and good luck with [RE]Spark 2022.” explained Dr. Ir. Dadan Kusdiana, M.Sc., The Director General of New, Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.
Arka Wiriadidjaja, Market Development Director of General Electric Indonesia, who is also one of [RE]Spark judges, said that synergy and collaboration from various parties at the event are essential to developing renewable energy potential in Indonesia. “[RE]Spark Festival by New Energy Nexus Indonesia is a good start to discuss and raise awareness, especially to the younger generation and future entrepreneurs, on the importance of switching to clean and renewable energy,” Arka added.
Dyah Roro Esti Widya Putri, Member of Commission VII DPR RI, who will be part of the jury at the [RE]Spark Clean Energy Festival 2022, also shares her insight on how significant the contribution of Indonesian youth is to energy sustainability in the future. “We are currently facing a climate crisis, and the fact that approximately 30% of total carbon emissions come from the energy sector. Therefore, innovation is needed towards transforming the energy industry. I would like to appreciate New Energy Nexus for organizing [RE]Spark as a platform for young people and innovators to strive towards a 100% renewable energy economy for Indonesia.” stated Dyah.
